PROJECT STORY 01

JESCO Teamwork, Fostering Dreams and a Sense of Mission

―Team Building that Creates a Sense of Group Unity―

“Creating an affluent society where people can live with peace of mind,” a philosophy handed down for half a century since JESCO’s founding

The JESCO Group traces its roots back to 1970, when JESCO Co., LTD. was founded as an electrical installation construction contractor. At that time, the company had only five employees. Today, after nearly half a century of growth, we are a company with more than 500 employees. We have expanded the scale of our business operations, first venturing overseas in 1997 and participating in national projects in Southeast Asia while broadening the scope of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). However, no matter how large our business grows or how diverse it becomes, the underlying spirit at the time of the company’s founding of “Creating an affluent society where people can live with peace of mind” remains unchanged to this day. This spirit inspires us to engage in wide-ranging businesses related to creation of a better society, such as infrastructure development, construction of wireless disaster prevention systems, and solar panel installation.

What is the source of JESCO’s distinctive corporate personality? It isn’t just our technological capabilities and customer service capabilities honed over time. What we call “Team JESCO,” the organizational capability to create a sense of unity, is another source of corporate strength handed down for over half a century.

An open, transparent corporate culture fosters the unity of Team JESCO

What underlies Team JESCO is an open, transparent corporate culture. Senior management reduces the distance between frontline employees and management by actively taking part not only in divisional general meetings, but also at leader meetings, department meetings, and daily meetings. All employees participate at least twice a year in training camps regularly held at the Group’s Tateshina Village Taki-no-Yukawa Training Center in Nagano Prefecture. We also conduct cross-organizational function-specific and objective-specific training camps. While of course the primary objective of these activities is training to enhance work skills and knowledge, heart-to-heart interactions among employees, such as social gatherings and hot spring bathing, contribute to strengthening the unity of Team JESCO.

Furthermore, Vietnam-based JESCO ASIA JOINT STOCK COMPANY (JESCO ASIA), the Group’s ASEAN base for EPC, sends locally hired Vietnamese engineers to Japan for training. The objective is to promote not only acquisition of skills and knowledge corresponding to the standards expected in Japan, but also transmission of the JESCO Group’s DNA in order to nurture Team JESCO across national borders.

An environment in which each employee can grow as a professional

The most important characteristic of team building in the JESCO Group is that we create an environment in which anyone with the motivation and desire to demonstrate leadership can do so. Assignment based on accurate assessment of motivation, skills, and aptitude reflects the Group’s openness and transparency.

The JESCO Group has put in place a comprehensive education system to ensure acquisition of specialist expertise and competence enhancement in preparation for future business expansion. This system goes beyond one-to-one intensive training when employees join the company and various OJT training initiatives to include programs such as the once-monthly CNS University.

In addition to one-to-one intensive training when employees join the company and various OJT training initiatives, the JESCO Group also holds CNS University sessions once a month. CNS University is a scheme in which experienced employees with specialized expertise serve as instructors and give lectures on knowledge and skills. Each session is attended by several dozen participants who are enthusiastically seeking to develop their own knowledge and skills. In addition, the Group offers in-house courses for employees to obtain public certification as on-site representatives, foremen, or safety and health supervisors. At JESCO ASIA, the Group periodically holds Japanese classes for Vietnamese employees and actively offers support to facilitate communication with Japanese employees.

The JESCO Group’s motto “Human company” highlights our commitment as an enterprise to helping make the hopes and dreams of employees come true. The Group’s prosperity comes second to the growth of employees as individuals, members of society, and business professionals. This spirit has given rise to the sense of unity of Team JESCO.
